A place surrounded by nature

The cemetery was founded in 1972 in Torrelles de Llobregat, a lovely, quiet town 15 km from Barcelona, completely surrounded by nature. Many pets have been buried here since then, mainly dogs and cats, as well as birds, hamsters, parrots and even monkeys. In recent years burials of snakes, iguanas, chameleons, tortoises and other reptiles have increased.

1980

Dan, the German shepherd who saved 65 lives

An impressive mausoleum pays tribute to Dan, a German shepherd owned by Mr Ignacio Bernardino, who worked with the Barcelona fire brigade and police, saving 65 victims of fires, building collapses and other disasters. Fire-brigade and Red Cross buses came to his funeral to pay their last respects. To this day, people grateful to him for saving their lives still visit him regularly.

The animals’ heaven

In the cemetery office hangs a magnificent painting by the artist Joan Marc, depicting the heaven of animals.

Veterinarians of the World

Inside the grounds stands the monument to the Veterinarians of the World, with inscriptions by veterinarians from more than 30 countries in their own languages.

Tarradellas’ fir tree

At the entrance stands the impressive fir planted by the Most Honourable Josep Tarradellas, when he was president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, as a solemn show of his affinity with nature and animals.

“You can always visit your faithful companion in a wonderful landscape.”
